Stereotypes and the Average Human Idiot
I walked into work Monday to see my voicemail light on. I checked the message after some time, and heard an “interesting” message. First, you need to know I work for a construction company. Personally, I do a lot of accounts payable things. Second, you need to know that my voicemail is the general mailbox calls get forwarded to when the office is closed. We normally get some telemarketing messages after a weekend, sometimes we get the wrong number leaving messages. This day, however, I received I very different message.
Discount Stores and the Ignorant Consumer
There have recently been many stories about how discount stores are actually ruining the American work force and the economy. The problem is that none of those consumers read.
It’s no secret that the vast majority (if not 100%) of Wal-Mart’s goods are imported.* Wal-Mart has claimed that they import so many of their goods in order to keep prices low, which in turn allows their consumers to purchase items, they would not be able to afford otherwise.
Social Norms/Hopes & Dreams
I don’t understand the way people behave and think. In a place and time, where freedoms are placed on such a high pedestal, it’s amazing to see how people stay so safely within the norms of society. What is even more amazing, perhaps, is what the societal norms are. People are so afraid of what others think, they often play it safe and keep their differing opinions to themselves, even if they are not that radical.
